Terms of Service
Last updated: April 14, 2026
The short version
commit.is is a free tool for discovering GitHub repos. You can use it however you want, as long as you don't abuse it or break the law. We provide it as-is with no guarantees.
1. Acceptance
By using commit.is, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. Simple as that.
2. What commit.is is
commit.is is a web application that lets you discover trending GitHub repositories through a swipe interface. When you star a repo on commit.is, you are starring it on your actual GitHub account via the GitHub API.
3. Your account
- You sign in through GitHub OAuth. We don't store passwords.
- You're responsible for maintaining the security of your GitHub account.
- You can revoke commit.is access at any time at github.com/settings/applications.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Automate the interface to star repos at scale (use the GitHub API directly for that).
- Scrape or reverse-engineer the service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems.
- Abuse the service in a way that degrades it for other users.
- Use the service to harass, spam, or harm others.
We reserve the right to rate-limit or block abusive usage.
5. GitHub terms
commit.is uses the GitHub API. Your usage is also subject to GitHub's Terms of Service.
6. Intellectual property
The commit.is code and design belong to us. The repositories and metadata shown through the app belong to their respective owners on GitHub. README content is licensed under whatever license each repo uses.
7. AI-generated content
Repo summaries are generated by AI (Groq / Llama). They may be inaccurate. Always check the actual repository before using or contributing to any project you discover here.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee uptime, accuracy of summaries, or that the service will work on any given day. Use at your own risk.
9. Limitation of liability
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of commit.is. The maximum total liability, if any, is limited to the amount you paid us in the last twelve months — which, since the service is free, is zero.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use means you accept the new terms.
11. Termination
You can stop using commit.is anytime. We can also terminate or suspend access for violations of these terms, without notice.
